Top-order batsman Sam Curtis and swing bowler Holly Huddleston have earned recalls in New Zealand Womens squad for the seven-ODI tour of South Africa in October. Middle-order batsman Sara McGlashan, however, was left out of the 14-player squad.Curtis has played just seven ODIs, the last of which was in September 2014, but had a decent domestic one-day season for Auckland, with a tally of 289 runs from 10 innings with three half-centuries, including an unbeaten 65 in the final they won against Wellington. Huddleston took 5 for 36 against West Indies in her second ODI, but played only four more thereafter. Like Curtis, her last ODI was in September 2014, but she has since done well in domestic cricket. In the recent NatWest Womens T20 Cup in England, she took six wickets in five matches, at an average of 18.17.Coach Haidee Tiffen said both players had been selected due to their strong work ethic in the off season.Theyve worked hard for their recalls, Tiffen said. Sam wasnt selected at all last summer but offers us useful top-order batting and spin-bowling value, and Hollys swing bowling is something we see as beneficial to our goal of hitting the ground running at next years Womens Cricket World Cup in England.Tiffen also confirmed that as they seek to build a side with an eye on next years World Cup, the likes of McGlashan and offspinner Anna Peterson unfortunately missed out. With the World Cup on the horizon, weve selected both the touring squad and those to be offered annual contracts on the basis of our ODI performance in particular, and in this regard, some players have clearly been unlucky, Tiffen said. All 14 players in the squad were among those offered new, enhanced contracts for the 2016-17 season, under a new Memorandum of Understanding between New Zealand Cricket and the New Zealand Cricket Players Association. A fifteenth player, Liz Perry, was also offered a new contract but was not included in the touring squad due to a shoulder inury. Neither McGlashan nor Peterson were offered the new contracts.New Zealand will have a pre-tour camp in Tauranga next month, before departing for South Africa, where the first ODI takes place on October 8 in Kimberley. The first three of the seven ODIs will carry ICC Womens Championship points.New Zealand Women squad: Suzie Bates (capt), Erin Bermingham, Sam Curtis, Sophie Devine, Holly Huddleston, Leigh Kasperek, Katey Martin, Thamsyn Newton, Morna Nielsen, Katie Perkins, Rachel Priest, Hannah Rowe, Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu E.J. LOS ANGELES -- Jordan Zimmermann won his NL and major league-leading seventh game, Ryan Zimmerman drove in three runs and the Washington Nationals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 on Monday night after losing Bryce Harper in a violent collision with the wall in right field. Zimmermann (7-1) allowed nine hits and two runs in 7 2/3 innings, struck out five and walked none. Harper left the game in the fifth after hitting the scoreboard wall face-first while tracking a ball hit by A.J. Ellis over his left shoulder. He never looked at the wall and when he finally turned, he was on top of it. The impact sent Harpers cap flying as he bounced off the wall and crumpled to the ground, with Ellis getting a triple. Harper rolled onto his back and eventually got up under his own power. Streaks of blood were evident on his neck as he walked off the field. There was no immediate update on his condition before the game ended. He was playing just his second game after missing two with an ingrown toenail that required surgery. The Nationals ended a five-game skid at Dodger Stadium, where they were swept last year when Harper made his major league debut. The Dodgers two-game winning streak ended after Josh Becketts shortest outing of the season. Beckett (0-5) gave up four runs -- two earned -- and three hits in three innings while striking out five and walking two. Zimmermans RBI grounder in the first gave Washington a 1-0 lead. His RBI double added two more runs inn the third, when Adam LaRoche made it 4-0 on a RBI groundout.dddddddddddd Beckett gave up three runs on one hit in the inning. The Nationals extended their lead to 6-0 in the fifth. Zimmerman grounded into a fielders choice to pitcher Javy Guerra, and Steve Lombardozzi scored on Guerras throwing error. LaRoches RBI single scored Harper, who walked. The Dodgers trailed 6-1 in the sixth on Skip Schumakers RBI groundout. Matt Kemps RBI single in the eighth drove in their other run and extended his hitting streak to 12 games. It wasnt Harpers first collision with the wall at Dodger Stadium. Last year in the second game of his career he hit the centre-field wall while making a catch and hurt his back. On April 30 in Atlanta, he bruised his left side leaping toward the fence while trying to prevent a home run.
